ScanLocker

Your documents and your secrets, sealed on the iPhone that holds them.

Sending everything to another iPhone you have paired

A transfer carries pictures and Locker items to a paired iPhone over Bluetooth, Wi-Fi or the Internet. Each item travels encrypted, and no server of ours takes part.

Pairing happens once

Both iPhones have ScanLocker open and unlocked. A pairing works in both directions.

  1. On both iPhones, open the Settings tab and tap Devices & Transfers, Pair a Device, then the same connection.
  2. On one, tap Share My PIN for a six-digit PIN, or Share My Code over the Internet for a nine-digit code.
  3. Provide the PIN or the code to the other iPhone, by phone call or messenger for example.
  4. On the other, tap Enter PIN or Enter Code and type the digits.
  5. Name the device. Each iPhone then lists the other under Paired Devices.

A wrong entry retires the PIN or the code, and the iPhone that showed it offers Show a New PIN or Show a New Code.

Sending everything to a new iPhone

  1. Install ScanLocker on the new iPhone and pair the two.
  2. On the new iPhone, tap Devices & Transfers, Receive, the old iPhone, then Bluetooth, Wi-Fi or Internet.
  3. On the old iPhone, tap Devices & Transfers, Transfer All Content, the new iPhone, then the same connection. Over the Internet, Send All on Remote Transfer starts it.
  4. On the new iPhone, tap Accept on the notice.

One transfer carries up to 2 GB and runs while ScanLocker is open and unlocked on both iPhones. Leaving the transfer screen ends it. The receiving iPhone says when everything has arrived, and the sending iPhone keeps its contents.

Receiving

Tapping Bluetooth or Wi-Fi under Receive turns that connection on until ScanLocker is quit. A paired iPhone can then ask to deliver while ScanLocker is open and unlocked, and over the Internet it can ask with nothing turned on.

The ask is a notice titled Receive From, with the sending device’s name, the number of pictures and Locker items offered, and Deny and Accept. Nothing is saved before Accept. Deny ends the connection, and so does 60 seconds with no answer.

After Accept, each item is saved as it arrives and stays when a transfer stops early, and the Transfer Interrupted notice says how many were saved. An item the receiving iPhone already holds is left as it is, so a repeated transfer adds no second copy.

On a full transfer an item arrives in a folder of the same name, created where missing. Items chosen one by one arrive in Home, and a Vault item arrives in Vault.

What a transfer over the Internet touches

It reaches Apple’s iCloud, Cloudflare’s STUN server and the other iPhone, and neither Apple nor Cloudflare can read what is sent. Transfers between iPhones, in the Privacy Policy

When the transfer will not start

A transfer starts when each iPhone lists the other under Paired Devices, ScanLocker is open and unlocked on both, and both are in Bluetooth range, on one Wi-Fi network, or online. Over Bluetooth or Wi-Fi, that connection is on under Receive on the receiving iPhone, and Wi-Fi needs Local Network on for ScanLocker in iPhone Settings.
