ScanLocker

Your documents and your secrets, sealed on the iPhone that holds them.

Using ScanLocker, step by step

Each entry says how one task in ScanLocker is done.

Putting material in

Tapping Capture photographs one page, and tapping Keep encrypts it into the open folder. Multi photographs until Done and files the pages as one item. Import brings in Camera Roll pictures, a PDF of up to 100 pages as one picture per page, or a page drawn by hand.

Add Item on the Locker tab opens a form for a Note or a Key / Value pair, and tapping Save encrypts it. An item holds about 3.6 KB, and the form counts bytes as you type. Tapping Edit on an open item reopens its form, except in Vault.

Keeping a copy in iCloud

Automatic Backup, under iCloud Backup on the Settings tab, copies Scan and Locker together each time ScanLocker starts. The copy holds the pictures and Locker items of both tabs with their folders, each encrypted on this iPhone before it leaves, and nothing from Vault or the Trash Bin. Last backup under the switch gives the time of the last whole copy.

On another iPhone signed in to the same Apple Account, turning Automatic Backup on adds that iPhone’s contents to the copy, and tapping Restore Backup To This Device adds the copy to that iPhone. A restore keeps what is already there, returns contents to their own folders and asks for no PIN.

Turning the switch off and tapping Delete removes the copy and its keys from iCloud and leaves the iPhone’s contents. Cancel keeps the copy.

A transfer to a paired iPhone also carries Vault. Sending everything to another iPhone you have paired

Folding pictures together

Checking pictures in one folder and tapping Merge binds them into one document in the order shown, and Split takes it apart. Both keep the originals.

Editing a picture

A signature is drawn once under the Scan gear and laid on a picture from Edit, where a saved signature stays. Delete Text marks the words you choose in orange, and Confirm Delete removes them and closes the gap. Save As New Picture keeps the original, and Replace Original writes the change over it. A Vault picture takes neither a signature nor Delete Text.

Sending a copy out

Checking items and tapping Share hands a readable copy to the application you pick. A Vault item cannot be shared.

Keeping other people out

Both locks start at No. Face ID / Passcode asks for the device owner each time ScanLocker opens. PIN sets one PIN and asks which tabs it covers. The PIN

Folders

A folder other than Home and Vault can be deleted once it is empty. Pressing and holding a folder shows the delete buttons, and dragging a folder sideways reorders them.

Finding an item by its title

Tapping the orange magnifying glass at the top of Scan or Locker opens a line to type on, and the open folder lists the items whose title contains the text. A second tap removes the filter, and so does leaving or locking ScanLocker.

Deleting

Checking a row brings Delete above the list. The box left of the folder names checks the whole folder, and a second tap checks the whole tab. Deleting a whole tab of several folders passes two erase screens.

Each tab’s gear has a Trash Bin, which holds a deleted item for the days you choose, 30 at the start and up to 365. Open the Trash Bin lists what it holds, where Delete destroys a checked row and Restore returns it to its folder. Turning the Trash Bin off or setting Days to zero destroys what it holds, and a delete is then final.

A Vault item is deleted from inside Vault, immediately and without the Trash Bin. Erasing through Forgot your PIN? also deletes the erased contents’ copy in iCloud.

Deleting ScanLocker from the Home Screen removes every file it stored on that iPhone, and a new installation starts empty. The copy in iCloud stays until Automatic Backup is turned off.

Tapping Reset History on the Security page clears its counts and the event history, and a red padlock stays on its item. A copy you shared, saved to Camera Roll, printed or transferred to a paired iPhone is deleted where you sent it.
